The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) has officially launched a significant road repair project in Green Avenue Colony, located in Daad village, with an estimated cost of ₹17.7 lakh. This initiative represents a crucial step in the government's ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure in previously unauthorised residential areas across the region.
Project Details and Timeline
The construction work, which focuses on road surface restoration and connectivity enhancements, is scheduled to be completed within a strict timeframe of three months, or approximately 90 days. Officials have confirmed that the project is already underway and is expected to directly benefit hundreds of local residents who have transitioned into regularised housing arrangements.
Funding Through Regularisation Policy
The entire project is being financed through revenue generated by the Punjab government's regularisation policy. Under this established framework, owners of eligible plots and buildings in unauthorised colonies receive no-objection certificates (NOCs) after meeting prescribed norms and paying the requisite fees. A Glada spokesperson elaborated on this mechanism, stating, "The revenue generated through these NOCs is directly channelled back into the respective colonies. This ensures that the funds paid by residents are utilised for essential services such as road repairs, street lighting, and water and sewerage facilities."
Broader Infrastructure Priorities
Glada officials have indicated that while work has commenced in Green Avenue Colony, several other pending infrastructure cases are currently under active review. The authority plans to address these projects on a priority basis to minimise inconvenience for residents throughout the district. This move aligns with a broader mandate from the Punjab government to ensure that regularised colonies do not remain "islands" of poor infrastructure but instead receive the same level of municipal care as established urban areas.
