Gurgaon's Long-Neglected Sector 114 Road Finally Set for Major Revamp
In a significant move to address urban infrastructure gaps, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has initiated a much-needed upgrade for a 750-meter stretch of the master road dividing Sector 114 outer road. This project, estimated to cost Rs 7.8 crore, comes after years of neglect that left the road in a deplorable state, causing daily hardships for commuters and residents alike.
Years of Delay and Deterioration Lead to Renewed Action
The road, originally developed by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) over a decade ago, was handed over to GMDA in 2018. Despite plans for repairs in 2021 and a redevelopment proposal in June 2023, the project repeatedly stalled due to perceived low traffic movement. However, with the condition worsening significantly—featuring deep potholes, a non-motorable carriageway, and loose dust—authorities have now revived the plan to ensure safer and smoother commutes.
A GMDA official stated, "Bids have been invited for this upgrade as part of our broader efforts to enhance urban infrastructure. This initiative aims to facilitate improved mobility and safety for all road users."
Comprehensive Upgrade Plan for Enhanced Safety and Functionality
Under the newly approved plan, the upgrade will encompass several critical improvements designed to transform this neglected stretch into a modern, functional roadway. Key components include:
- Strengthening of the main carriageway to address structural deficiencies.
- Installation of a central verge crash barrier to significantly enhance road safety.
- Construction of drains on both sides for effective stormwater management, reducing waterlogging risks.
- Addition of road furniture and other traffic safety infrastructure to boost overall functionality.
Once the contract is awarded, the project is expected to be completed within eight months, providing timely relief to the affected community.
Separate Project for Service Road Along Sectors 51-52
In a related development, GMDA has also floated a tender for the special repair of a 1-kilometer service road along the sectors 51-52 dividing master road. This project, estimated at around Rs 5 crore, will focus on:
- Repair and strengthening of the existing service road surface.
- Development of surface drainage systems and footpaths for pedestrian safety.
- Installation of grilles and lowering of adjoining green belt areas to facilitate better stormwater flow.
- Implementation of road safety items to ensure a secure commuting environment.
This dual initiative underscores GMDA's commitment to addressing long-standing civic issues and improving the quality of life for Gurgaon's residents through targeted infrastructure investments.
