Haryana Government Approves Major Digital Overhaul for Revenue Officials
The Haryana government has taken a significant step towards modernizing its revenue administration by approving the procurement of 4,156 smart tablets for patwaris and kanungos across the state. This initiative, sanctioned by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management and Urban Local Bodies Vipul Goel on Saturday, aims to transform field operations, cut down procedural delays, and improve the overall delivery of revenue services to citizens.
Bringing Technology to the Grassroots Level
Financial Commissioner of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Sumit Misra, highlighted that this move reflects the government's commitment to extending technology beyond office spaces and urban centers to the field level, where officials directly interact with the public. She emphasized that the initiative is designed to benefit both field staff and citizens by making services more accessible, efficient, and transparent, particularly in rural and agricultural regions.
For decades, patwaris and kanungos have relied on manual records, hand-drawn maps, and extensive paperwork, making their work time-consuming and physically demanding. With the introduction of these tablets, officials will now be able to conduct field surveys, record data, capture GPS-tagged photographs, and upload information directly to central servers in real time. The inclusion of voice-to-text functionality will further simplify data entry, reduce manual effort, and enhance accuracy.
High-End Specifications for Field Efficiency
Misra informed that the tablets will be equipped with high-end specifications to support rigorous fieldwork. These include a large display, advanced processing capability, sufficient storage capacity, and long battery life to ensure a full day of operation. With 5G and LTE connectivity, along with GPS-enabled features and imaging capabilities, the devices are engineered to function efficiently even in remote and challenging outdoor conditions.
Centralized Management for Enhanced Security
All 4,156 tablets will be integrated with a Mobile Device Management (MDM) system, supported by a two-year cloud-hosted license. This setup will enable the government to centrally monitor, update, secure, and manage all devices in real time, ensuring operational continuity, data integrity, and accountability at every level. Misra added that transparency and accountability have been built into every aspect of the initiative, from the procurement process, which will strictly adhere to government norms, to the daily functioning of each deployed device.
Expected Benefits for Citizens and Administration
The adoption of these digital tools is anticipated to significantly reduce delays, minimize errors, and curb discrepancies in revenue services. Citizens, especially farmers, will benefit from faster, more reliable, and doorstep delivery of services, thereby reducing the need for repeated visits to government offices. The integration of all devices with a centralized management system will facilitate continuous monitoring, timely updates, and enhanced data security, ultimately improving administrative efficiency and ensuring greater accountability and transparency in revenue operations across Haryana.
