Haryana's Road Accident Victims Receive Extensive Support Through Cashless Treatment Initiative
The Haryana government has successfully assisted 4,179 road accident victims across the state by providing them with cashless medical treatment in private hospitals throughout the year 2025, according to an official statement released by the state authorities. This significant achievement underscores the administration's commitment to enhancing emergency healthcare services for those injured in traffic incidents.
Comprehensive Cashless Treatment Scheme Implementation
Notably, the Cashless Free Treatment Scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways with the primary objective of delivering prompt and effective medical care to individuals injured in road accidents. The Haryana police serves as the nodal agency for executing this crucial initiative, ensuring seamless coordination between various stakeholders.
Under this progressive scheme, each injured person is entitled to receive cashless free treatment worth up to ₹1.5 lakh per accident for a maximum duration of 7 days from the date of the accident. To facilitate the effective implementation of this program, authorities have empanelled 1,228 hospitals across the state, guaranteeing timely medical assistance to victims when they need it most.
Official Statements and Scheme Background
Ajay Singhal, Director General of Police for Haryana, emphasized on Friday that making roads safer for the public remains among the top priorities for the Haryana police force. He stated that continuous efforts are being made through well-planned and effective strategies to reduce road accidents throughout the state.
Singhal further informed that this innovative scheme for providing free treatment to road accident victims was officially launched in October 2024 and implemented as a pilot project with coordinated efforts among the National Health Authority, local police departments, and empanelled hospitals of the state health department. The legal framework for this initiative is supported by Section 162 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which mandates that accident victims receive cashless free treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for a maximum of 7 days following an incident.
Road Safety Enhancement and Black Spot Management
Highlighting the broader efforts to reduce road accidents, Hardeep Doon, Additional Director General of Police (Traffic & Highways), confirmed that the Haryana police is continuously working to strengthen road safety measures across the state. Between 2020 and 2024, authorities identified a total of 339 black spots throughout Haryana that were particularly prone to accidents.
Of these identified hazardous locations, 109 black spots have already been rectified by the concerned departments, while improvement work at the remaining spots is currently underway. Additionally, with the assistance of the advanced eDAR/iRAD system, authorities are systematically identifying more black spots. A comprehensive list of 183 black spots identified through this technological system was forwarded to the Public Works Department (B&R) in August 2025 for necessary corrective action.
School Transportation Safety and Traffic Management
Under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, authorities conducted thorough inspections of 26,931 school buses across Haryana in 2025. As a result of these inspections, 5,909 challans were issued for various violations, and 4 buses were impounded due to serious safety concerns.
Regarding traffic calming measures, the Haryana Police identified 2,378 locations across the state that required improvement and forwarded these to the Transport Department for necessary action. By December 2025, authorities had successfully rectified 1,228 of these locations. Similarly, out of 600 illegal road cuts identified in 2024, 411 have been closed, while action on the remaining illegal cuts is currently in progress.
