Haryana rolls out portal to map sports facilities in government schools
Haryana portal maps sports facilities in govt schools

The Haryana government has launched a 'Sports Infrastructure Portal' to create a comprehensive digital database of sports facilities in all government schools across the state. The Directorate of Secondary Education has directed principals and headmasters of Government High Schools and Government Senior Secondary Schools to submit detailed information through the portal by July 9. The initiative aims to assess existing sports infrastructure and identify future requirements to strengthen sports culture and promote athletic development among students.

Portal aims to digitise sports infrastructure data

The portal, developed by the state government, digitally records sports infrastructure available in government schools while identifying areas needing additional facilities. According to official information, this supports evidence-based planning for future investments and promotes a sports culture among students. The move is expected to help the government prepare a comprehensive database and formulate plans to improve sports infrastructure in educational institutions.

Two categories of information required

Schools must upload information under two major categories: existing sports infrastructure facilities and requirements for new sports infrastructure. The portal further classifies sports facilities into three sections: indoor games, outdoor games, and mixed games. Schools must provide sport-wise details including availability of grounds, courts, equipment, training facilities, and other relevant infrastructure. They must also indicate facilities that need to be created or upgraded.

Four-step submission process outlined

Ashok Rana, District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO), Yamunanagar, explained the four-step process. First, schools log in using their existing Management Information System (MIS) credentials to ensure secure access. Second, they fill in complete details of existing and required sports infrastructure. The system then generates an official PDF report. Third, the report must be downloaded and signed by both the sports instructor and the principal. Fourth, the signed PDF is uploaded to the portal for departmental review.

“The department has emphasised that the information should be accurate and comprehensive to facilitate effective planning,” said DEEO Ashok Rana.

Benefits of digitisation

Education Department officials believe digitising sports infrastructure data will improve transparency, simplify monitoring, and enable quicker identification of schools needing additional facilities. The consolidated database will help prioritise projects based on actual requirements and available infrastructure. Shiv Kumar Dhiman, Deputy District Elementary Education Officer (Deputy DEEO), Yamunanagar, said the centralised repository will strengthen planning, improve resource allocation, and ensure every government school receives facilities needed to encourage sporting excellence.

“This initiative will help strengthen sports infrastructure across government schools, encourage student participation in sports and create better opportunities for nurturing future athletes,” said Deputy DEEO Shiv Kumar Dhiman.

District context: Yamunanagar

Yamunanagar district has 915 elementary, secondary, and senior secondary schools that will be covered under the portal. The deadline for submitting information is July 9, after which the department will analyse the data to formulate plans for improving sports infrastructure across the state.
