Hazaribag MP Manish Jaiswal Reviews Konar Water Project Progress

Hazaribag MP Manish Jaiswal conducted a comprehensive review of the Konar drinking water supply scheme on Saturday night, emphasizing the urgent need to expedite work to provide relief to residents during the ongoing summer season. The review meeting, held at the circuit house, focused on accelerating the project executed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

Project Timeline and Key Targets

During the meeting, Jaiswal stressed that water supply from towers constructed near Hazaribag Lake and Charwa Dam must be operational within the next three to four months. He further assured full support to L&T to ensure that supply from the Konar Dam could be established within one year, highlighting the critical importance of this infrastructure for the community.

Current Status and Challenges

Officials provided a detailed update on the project's progress, informing the MP that one tower at Hazaribag Lake, three towers at Charwa Dam, and all seven towers at Konar Dam have been completed. However, they noted that some clearances related to the forest department and national highway authorities are still pending for the Konar project, which could potentially delay implementation.

To address these bottlenecks, Jaiswal revealed that he has already spoken with State Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, senior departmental officials, and Hazaribag District Collector Shashi Prakash Singh to resolve these issues at the earliest possible opportunity.

Project Scope and Beneficiary Impact

The Konar project aims to connect approximately 56,000 households in the municipal area, with about 22,000 households already receiving connections. Officials projected that once the first phase becomes operational by June–July, around 60,000 residents in nearly 12,000 households are expected to receive potable water from the Hazaribag Lake and Charwa Dam sources.

This ambitious water supply scheme represents a significant step toward addressing water scarcity in the region, particularly during peak summer months when demand surges and existing resources face strain.
