Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Vishram Kumar Meena on Saturday suspended the Booth Level Officer (BLO) of Booth No. 104 in the Thanesar Assembly Constituency for negligence in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) work. The DC was inspecting Booth Nos. 104, 105, 106 and 107 located at the Non-Teaching Club of Kurukshetra University.
Reasons for Suspension and Immediate Action
The DC stated that the BLO, a non-teaching staff member of Kurukshetra University, had shown no interest in the SIR work. Persistent complaints from citizens and other officials regarding the booth had been received, and the BLO was found absent during the inspection. Considering these factors, the BLO was suspended and a replacement was appointed to ensure the SIR work at the booth was completed by July 14.
Deputy Commissioner Engages with Citizens and Reviews Progress
The Deputy Commissioner interacted with citizens present at the booth and urged them to encourage their neighbours and relatives to get their enumeration forms processed by the BLO. He conducted a detailed review of the progress of physical verification, form collection and voter awareness with the concerned BLOs. During the visit, he inspected registers and documents at the booth level and cross-verified the voter list printouts, door-to-door filled forms and enumeration registers. He also obtained direct feedback by speaking to voters over the phone.
Objective of Special Intensive Revision
The DC instructed officials to ensure that no eligible citizen’s name was left out of the SIR process and that no ineligible name appears on the list. The objective of the SIR is to make the voter list 100 per cent accurate and up to date, which required the participation of the administration and voters.
District-wide SIR Statistics
The DC stated that the Special Intensive Revision process was being conducted for 7,83,831 voters across 810 booths in the district. So far, enumeration forms had been distributed to 7,77,108 voters, accounting for about 99.14 per cent of the total voters. This includes 99.62 per cent in the Ladwa Assembly Constituency, 99.96 per cent in Shahabad, 97.43 per cent in Thanesar and 98.74 per cent in the Pehowa Assembly Constituency.
Digitisation Progress
He further stated that the data of 6,34,432 voters, about 80.94 per cent, had been digitised. This comprises 1,72,386 voters (87.11%) in Ladwa, 1,53,668 voters (88.74%) in Shahabad, 1,55,216 voters (68.09%) in Thanesar, and 1,55,216 voters (84.09%) in the Pehowa Assembly Constituency.
