Lucknow Municipal Corporation Launches FCTS Plant to Boost Waste Management
Lucknow Launches FCTS Plant for Efficient Waste Management

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has taken a significant step toward improving garbage disposal efficiency by introducing a Fixed Compactor Transfer Station (FCTS) facility. This plant, located at Bhainsora in the Gomti Nagar extension, was officially inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister AK Sharma on Thursday. The event was attended by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal and senior civic officials.

What is an FCTS Facility?

An FCTS is a specialized facility where waste collected from various parts of the city is compressed using automated compactors. This compressed waste is then transported in bulk to designated disposal sites, reducing the need for multiple trips and minimizing open dumping.

Key Features of the New Plant

  • Capacity: The plant can process approximately 150 tonnes of waste every day.
  • Cost: Built at a cost of around Rs 9 crore, it represents a significant investment in modern waste management infrastructure.
  • Coverage: The facility will improve waste collection and cleanliness in areas such as Bharwara, Malhaur, Khargapur, and Gomti Nagar Extension.

Government's Vision for Cleaner Cities

During the inauguration, Minister AK Sharma emphasized that the state government is focusing on leveraging modern technology to make cities cleaner and environmentally sustainable. Mayor Sushma Kharkwal reiterated the civic body's commitment to transforming Lucknow into one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the country.

Of these, work has been completed at 24 sites, while construction is currently underway at 15 locations. This phased approach aims to streamline waste management across the entire city.

The introduction of the FCTS plant is expected to significantly reduce open dumping and accelerate garbage lifting, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment for Lucknow residents.
