Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Ojasvi Alankar on Tuesday declared that all officials found negligent in monsoon preparedness will face strict accountability. Chairing a comprehensive review meeting at the MC Zone D office, he issued unequivocal orders to eliminate any laxity in the city's readiness for the rainy season.
Priority Areas and Immediate Actions
Alankar outlined several key priorities for the civic body ahead of the monsoon's onset. These include desilting of Buddha Nullah and internal drains, cleaning of sewer lines, strengthening embankments of watercourses, fogging operations, securing manhole covers, and cleaning road gullies. He stressed that every branch is now clear about its responsibilities and directed senior officials to submit certificates confirming completion of assigned tasks.
The officials concerned were also instructed to maintain constant coordination with the Irrigation Department for desilting and cleaning of Buddha Nullah beyond the city limits.
Monsoon War Room and Rapid Response Teams
Alankar announced the establishment of a dedicated 'monsoon war room' to address resident complaints efficiently. A helpline number will be issued shortly for citizens to report issues. Rapid action teams, comprising sewer workers and other staff, will be deployed to handle complaints promptly during the monsoon period.
Focus on Vector-Borne Disease Control
To safeguard residents from water-borne and vector-borne diseases that typically surge after rains, officials were directed to ensure proper chlorination and fogging across MC limits. The MC chief warned that no laxity would be tolerated and stern action would be taken against any anomalies. He added that joint and zonal commissioners have been tasked with regular monitoring of their respective areas.
