Madurai Collector Inspects Development Works, Stresses Cleanliness

Madurai: District collector K J Praveen Kumar conducted an inspection of development works and public facilities across multiple locations in Madurai district on Tuesday. The collector visited Kallikudi panchayat union, Odapatti village, K Chennampatti, Kurayur village, and Maruthangudi village, issuing directives to officials regarding cleanliness, water safety, service delivery, and record maintenance.

Water Supply and Infrastructure Review

At the overhead water tank in Kurayur village, the collector instructed officials to maintain cleanliness and ensure the supply of safe drinking water to the public. He also reviewed the paving block road work and the construction of a bridge over the Kounda river.

In Maruthangudi village, the collector inspected the new 2.4-kilometer-long tar road being laid from Maruthangudi to Vaiyampatti under the NABARD scheme. Additionally, he reviewed the planting of a large number of saplings on common land near the Maruthangudi village tank.

Health Infrastructure Assessment

At Kallikudi panchayat union, the collector inspected the construction of a community health building. He then reviewed the fever ward, registration area, and outpatient departments at the upgraded government primary health centre in Kallikudi.

The collector also inspected the quality of water supplied to the public in Odapatti village and emphasized the need for regular chlorination and cleaning of overhead tanks. At the fair price shop, he reviewed the quality and stock of food items provided to the public.

Social Security and Banking Services

The collector listened to the difficulties faced by beneficiaries of government social security schemes in accessing their benefits. He instructed bank officials to visit villages twice a month to deliver cash, ensuring better access to financial services for rural residents.
