Mangaluru MCC Takes Strict Action Against Absent Census Enumerators

In a firm move to ensure the smooth execution of Census 2027, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Ravichandra Naik has announced that notices have been issued to enumerators who failed to attend mandatory training sessions. The commissioner emphasized that the training is critical for the successful implementation of the nationwide census operation, and any absence without valid justification is being treated with utmost seriousness.

Details of the Census 2027 Operation in Mangaluru

Commissioner Naik revealed that a total of 909 enumerators have been appointed under seven charge officers to conduct the Census 2027 within the limits of the Mangaluru City Corporation. These enumerators are tasked with collecting vital demographic data that will shape future government policies and resource allocation.

In addition to the enumerator-led data collection, a self-enumeration process has been facilitated for citizens. This online initiative allows residents to personally fill in their information through a secure portal, www.se.census.gov.in, from Wednesday until April 15. This dual approach aims to enhance accuracy and efficiency in the census process.

Mandatory Training and Consequences for Absence

A mandatory training programme was organised for all appointed enumerators to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for their duties. However, it was observed that some enumerators remained absent from these sessions, citing reasons deemed unjustifiable by the authorities.

Commissioner Naik stated that all charge officers have been instructed to ensure full attendance of enumerators under their supervision and submit detailed reports. In line with this, notices have been issued to the absent enumerators as per the provisions of the Census Act, 1948, and its associated rules.

The commissioner issued a stern warning: "Enumerators are strictly required to attend the next training session. Legal and disciplinary action will be taken against those who fail to comply. This matter is considered extremely serious, and the concerned parties have been instructed to strictly follow the directions."

Importance of Training for Census Success

Training is highlighted as a cornerstone for the accurate and efficient conduct of the census. Enumerators play a pivotal role in data collection, and their preparedness directly impacts the reliability of the census results. The MCC's proactive measures underscore the administration's commitment to upholding the integrity of Census 2027.

Commissioner Naik urged all enumerators to approach their responsibilities with diligence and professionalism, reminding them that their participation is essential for the national endeavor. The notice serves as a clear message that non-compliance will not be tolerated, ensuring that the census operation proceeds without hindrance.
