Mizoram Chief Minister Launches Innovative CSR Matchmaking Portal

In a significant step towards enhancing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma officially inaugurated the CSR Matchmaking Portal, named "Mizoram CSR Connect", on Tuesday in Aizawl. This digital platform has been developed by the Mizoram CSR Cell, operating under the state's planning and programme implementation department, in collaboration with UNDP India.

Bridging CSR Contributors and Implementing Agencies

The primary objective of the Mizoram CSR Connect portal is to create a seamless connection between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributors and various implementing agencies. By doing so, it aims to improve coordination and streamline CSR initiatives across Mizoram, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently and effectively.

Addressing Low CSR Engagement in Mizoram

During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Lalduhoma highlighted a concerning statistic: Mizoram received only 0.06 per cent of India's total CSR expenditure in the 2023–24 period. He emphasized the urgent need for stronger CSR engagement within the state and expressed hope that this new portal would serve as a catalyst for increased corporate involvement.

Lalduhoma elaborated on the establishment of the Mizoram CSR Cell within the Chief Minister's Office in June 2024, which was specifically created to strengthen CSR-related initiatives. He described the portal as a transparent and structured digital platform designed to bridge the gap between CSR donors and seekers, thereby improving the ease of doing CSR in Mizoram.

Ensuring Transparency and Measurable Outcomes

The Chief Minister assured that the portal would not only facilitate connections but also ensure transparency, accountability, and measurable outcomes for corporates. He invited both corporate entities and civil society organizations to actively participate, promising that CSR funds would be used in a transparent and impactful manner.

Highlighting Mizoram's Unique Strengths

Lalduhoma took the opportunity to showcase Mizoram's strengths, which he believes make it an ideal destination for CSR investments. These include:

  • A peaceful environment with a low corruption rate
  • A high literacy level among the population
  • Significant progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • The traditional Mizo value of 'tlawmngaihna', which embodies selflessness and community spirit

UNDP India's Support and Future Collaboration

Angela Lusigi, the Resident Representative of UNDP India, praised the portal as a commendable initiative with both national and global relevance. She expressed pride in UNDP India's partnership in developing this platform and reaffirmed the organization's commitment to sustainable development, women empowerment, and environmental conservation.

Lusigi underscored the importance of data-driven planning in achieving development outcomes and confirmed that UNDP would continue to collaborate with Mizoram. She highlighted how the portal would support CSR stakeholders by providing reliable data and facilitating informed decision-making.

A Step Towards Streamlined CSR Initiatives

The launch of the Mizoram CSR Connect portal marks a pivotal moment in the state's efforts to enhance corporate social responsibility. By leveraging technology and partnerships, Mizoram aims to create a more structured and transparent ecosystem for CSR activities, ultimately driving sustainable development and community welfare across the region.
