In a decisive move to tackle the rampant issue of illegal mining, the Mohali district administration has launched a major crackdown. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal has constituted seven dedicated special teams to conduct rigorous daily inspections across the region.
Special Teams to Patrol Key Subdivisions
The newly formed squads, which comprise both administrative and police officials, are set to begin their ground operations from January 1. Their primary mandate is to identify and halt unauthorized mining activities. The district has been strategically divided for this purpose, with three teams deployed in the Kharar subdivision, three in Derabassi, and one team specifically for the Mohali subdivision.
Strict Directives for Legal Action and Database Creation
DC Komal Mittal has issued clear and strict instructions to ensure the effectiveness of this drive. She has directed that all First Information Reports (FIRs) filed in illegal mining cases must compulsorily include specific details such as vehicle registration numbers and the names of the vehicle owners. This measure aims to hold individuals directly accountable and strengthen legal proceedings.
Furthermore, to create a robust monitoring framework, officials have been instructed to prepare a comprehensive database of all vehicles used in mining activities. This registry will be developed in coordination with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and will cover machinery like tippers, JCBs, poclains, and tractor-trolleys.
Regular Reporting and Accountability
The special teams are not only tasked with on-ground enforcement but also with maintaining transparency and accountability. They have been ordered to submit regular reports directly to the Deputy Commissioner's office. This continuous feedback loop is designed to allow for real-time assessment of the crackdown's progress and enable swift administrative action based on field findings.
This multi-pronged initiative by the Mohali administration signals a serious intent to regulate mining operations, protect natural resources, and curb the significant revenue loss caused by illegal activities.
