Mysuru Minister Inaugurates Swachhata Roadshow to Promote Civic Cleanliness
District minister HC Mahadevappa officially inaugurated the Swachhata Roadshow, organized by the Mysuru City Corporation, on Sunday. The event aimed to rally citizens towards actively participating in efforts to maintain the city's cleanliness and enhance public health standards.
Minister's Call for Collective Action on Cleanliness
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Mahadevappa highlighted that numerous awareness programs are being conducted across Mysuru to educate the public about cleanliness, the harmful effects of drug abuse, and the importance of maintaining good health. He urged residents to cooperate with the government and contribute towards building a cleaner and healthier urban environment.
The minister underscored that the global reputation of Mysuru is intrinsically linked to the legacy of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, whose visionary leadership transformed the city into one of India's most well-planned urban centers. Mahadevappa emphasized that it is the collective responsibility of every citizen to preserve this legacy by keeping the city clean for future generations.
Recognition of Sanitation Workers and Civic Discipline
Mahadevappa lauded the dedication of sanitation workers, often referred to as Pourakarmikas, describing them as "cleanliness soldiers" who play a vital role in maintaining public hygiene. He stressed that achieving cleanliness cannot be accomplished by the government alone and called upon people to adopt responsible civic habits.
Specifically, the minister urged citizens to refrain from spitting in public places, littering on roads, and allowing pets to defecate in open spaces. He noted that Mysuru could become even more beautiful if residents strictly follow such disciplined practices.
Women's Day Emphasis on Empowerment
Marking International Women's Day, Mahadevappa highlighted the importance of promoting women's education, equality, economic independence, and political participation. He acknowledged the contributions of BR Ambedkar in framing laws that guarantee equal rights and opportunities for women, emphasizing their crucial role in building strong families and a progressive society.
Roadshow Features and Dignitaries Present
The Swachhata Roadshow featured a vibrant procession including vintage cars, bikers, folk artists, students, civic groups, and sanitation workers, all actively spreading awareness about cleanliness. Notable attendees included MLAs Tanveer Sait, GT Devegowda, and K Harish Gowda, along with MLC CN Manjegowda, deputy commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy G, and Mysuru City Corporation commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif.
