Nashik Municipal Corporation Enforces Security Measures for Road Infrastructure Projects
In a decisive move to safeguard critical infrastructure development, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued a directive requiring contractors engaged in road projects across the city to deploy private security guards at all work sites. This initiative aims to prevent disruptions and ensure the timely completion of works in preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, scheduled for 2027.
Addressing Interference from Local Representatives
The decision follows multiple incidents where road construction activities were allegedly halted due to interference by local public representatives. A significant complaint was lodged by a contractor involved in a major road development project in the Panchavati division. The contractor reported repeated obstructions at the site to NMC Commissioner Manisha Khatri on Wednesday, prompting immediate action. Additionally, the contractor sought police protection to continue work without interruptions, highlighting the severity of the issue.
A similar disruption occurred recently during the execution of the Ram Kal Path project in the same division, underscoring a pattern of interference that threatens project timelines. Commissioner Khatri confirmed that contractors are now advised to deploy security guards not only to prevent such hurdles but also to curb theft of construction materials, which has been a concern at various sites.
Commissioner's Directives and Site Visits
In response to these challenges, Commissioner Khatri emphasized the adverse impact of such incidents on project schedules, particularly as Nashik ramps up preparations for the Kumbh Mela. She stated, "In view of recent incidents where road works were stalled, contractors have been instructed to deploy security guards. They have also been advised to immediately approach the police if there is any interference or obstruction at the site." She added that uninterrupted execution is essential to meet strict deadlines, given the scale of infrastructure upgrades underway.
To reinforce this directive, Commissioner Khatri personally visited several roadwork sites in the Panchavati area on Thursday, where works had reportedly been halted by public representatives. She spent nearly an hour at these locations to ensure that construction resumed smoothly and instructed civic engineers and contractors to enhance coordination to avoid further disruptions.
Major Infrastructure Projects and Future Plans
Currently, the NMC is overseeing 28 major road development and strengthening projects across Nashik, with a total investment of approximately Rs 1,270 crore. These projects are a cornerstone of the city's infrastructure enhancement strategy ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. According to the civic body's roadmap, all roadworks are targeted for completion by March 2027.
Officials have indicated that stricter monitoring, improved coordination with police authorities, and the deployment of security personnel at sites are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring that projects are completed as per schedule. This proactive approach aims to mitigate risks and maintain momentum in Nashik's transformation for the grand religious event.
