North Central Railway Sets National Record with 100% Fire Safety System Coverage
NCR Achieves 100% Fire Safety System Installation in AC Coaches

The North Central Railway (NCR) has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in railway safety by becoming the first railway zone in India to complete 100% installation of fire and smoke detection systems across all its air-conditioned coaches. This initiative marks a significant advancement in passenger protection, setting a new national record for comprehensive safety coverage.

Complete Safety Coverage for Enhanced Rail Journeys

All 730 AC coaches under the NCR jurisdiction are now equipped with state-of-the-art fire and smoke detection technology, ensuring that rail travel is safer than ever before. This system serves as a critical safety shield, designed to prevent and control fire-related incidents in trains, thereby safeguarding passengers from potential hazards.

How the Advanced Detection System Works

The fire and smoke detection system features smoke detectors installed on the ceilings of AC coaches, capable of sensing even the slightest traces of smoke. These detectors are integrated into a network of pipelines that run throughout the entire coach. Upon detecting smoke, the system automatically activates motors to respond to the situation. In more severe conditions, it not only triggers an alarm to alert passengers and railway staff but can also automatically apply the emergency brake to mitigate further danger.

Three-Year Journey to Full Implementation

The initiative to install these fire safety systems in trains was launched nearly three years ago, with a phased approach to ensure thorough coverage. In the initial phase, premium trains such as the Prayagraj Express and Humsafar Express were equipped with the technology. Over time, the coverage expanded to include several other key services, including the Prayagraj–Subedarganj–Meerut City Sangam Express, Kanpur Shatabdi, Prayagraj–Lalgarh Express, and Subedarganj–Udhampur Express, among others.

Commitment to Passenger Safety and Technological Advancement

Senior Public Relations Officer of NCR, Amit Malviya, confirmed that the fire and smoke detection system is now fully installed in all AC coaches and power cars across the zone. This achievement underscores NCR's unwavering commitment to maximizing safety and embracing advanced technology for passenger protection. With this accomplishment, NCR has emerged as a national leader in train safety, setting a benchmark for other railway zones to follow.
