NHAI Boosts Monsoon Readiness in Himachal with Focus on Accident-Prone Zones

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has intensified its surveillance and emergency response systems across Himachal Pradesh to mitigate potential disasters during the ongoing monsoon season. An official spokesperson confirmed that adequate machinery, technical experts, field staff, and emergency response equipment have been strategically deployed at vulnerable locations throughout the state.

Mitigation Measures at Vulnerable Sites

NHAI has identified locations prone to landslides, slope collapses, debris accumulation, flooding, and other monsoon-related hazards. Mitigation measures have been implemented on a priority basis. Detailed surveys of vulnerable and landslide-prone sections of the national highway network were conducted, and remedial work has begun at identified spots.

Engineering measures include hillside protection, slope stabilization, retaining walls, improved drainage systems, anti-erosion measures, and other safety enhancements. These steps aim to bolster the resilience of highway infrastructure against extreme weather.

Focus on Previously Affected Areas

Special attention has been given to stretches severely impacted during the last monsoon season. Alongside immediate mitigation, NHAI has planned permanent solutions for long-term stability, including construction of bridges, protective structures, and other critical infrastructure.

“NHAI has conducted detailed surveys of vulnerable and landslide-prone sections of the national highway network across the state. Based on these assessments, remedial work has been initiated at identified locations. Engineering measures have been implemented to enhance the resilience of highway infrastructure and mitigate the impact of extreme weather, including hillside protection, slope stabilisation, retaining walls, improved drainage systems, anti-erosion measures, and other safety measures,” the spokesperson said.

Coordination with Authorities

NHAI is working closely with district administrations, police, disaster management authorities, and other relevant agencies to ensure prompt response and effective emergency management. The public has been advised to alert authorities immediately by dialing the NH helpline number 1033 or contacting police and district administration in any emergency.
