NMC Approves Trimbakeshwar Waste Processing at Pathardi Plant

Nashik Municipal Corporation Approves Trimbakeshwar Waste Processing Agreement

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has officially approved a significant proposal from the Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council (TMC) to process its daily collected waste at NMC's established compost plant located in Pathardi, on the outskirts of Nashik city. This strategic arrangement is designed as a temporary solution to address Trimbakeshwar's immediate waste management challenges.

Temporary Waste Processing Mechanism

Under this newly approved plan, approximately seven tonnes of garbage generated daily in Trimbakeshwar will be transported to the Pathardi compost plant for scientific processing. This interim measure will remain in effect until the TMC's own composting facility becomes fully operational, which is projected to be completed by March 2027. The move aims to provide crucial support to the TMC, which currently lacks permanent infrastructure for effective waste management.

Financial and Logistical Details

Ajit Nikat, the director of NMC's solid waste department, confirmed the development, stating that the civic body has agreed to accept Trimbakeshwar's garbage at the Pathardi plant. As part of the financial arrangement, the TMC will pay NMC a processing charge of Rs931 per tonne of waste handled. Importantly, the transportation of waste from Trimbakeshwar to the Pathardi facility will be managed entirely by the TMC, ensuring that NMC's operational focus remains on processing.

Capacity and Current Operations

The Pathardi compost plant boasts an impressive processing capacity of 900 tonnes per day. Currently, Nashik city itself generates around 800 tonnes of garbage daily, which is transported to the plant by approximately 300 collection vehicles operating across the city's six divisions. This existing infrastructure allows for the additional processing of Trimbakeshwar's waste without overburdening the system, highlighting the plant's efficiency and scalability.

This collaborative effort between the two municipal bodies underscores a proactive approach to regional waste management, leveraging existing resources to address environmental concerns while awaiting the completion of Trimbakeshwar's independent facility.
