Patiala Deputy Commissioner Reviews Fuel Supply, Issues Strict Warning Against Hoarding

In a significant administrative move, Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia conducted a comprehensive review of the availability and distribution of essential fuels across the Patiala district on Tuesday. The review focused on both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders, as well as petrol and diesel supplies, with a clear directive to prevent any illegal activities that could disrupt the market.

Administration's Priority: Uninterrupted Fuel Supply

Chairing a high-level meeting with District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Ravinder Kaur, along with officials and representatives from major oil and gas companies, Walia emphasized that the administration's foremost priority is to ensure an uninterrupted and adequate supply of LPG and other fuels to all consumers. He stated that the district administration is committed to maintaining stability in the fuel sector and addressing any potential shortages proactively.

Walia made a strong appeal to residents, urging them to avoid panic booking of LPG cylinders or panic buying of petrol and diesel. He reassured the public that there is no immediate cause for concern regarding fuel supplies, as the administration is closely monitoring the situation to prevent any disruptions. The deputy commissioner highlighted that such panic-driven actions could inadvertently create artificial shortages and market instability.

Strict Action Against Illegal Activities

The deputy commissioner issued a stern warning against any form of black marketing, hoarding, or illegal diversion of essential fuels. He declared that any instance of leakage, black marketing, or hoarding would be dealt with strictly under the law, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards such practices. To ensure transparency and fairness, Walia directed all gas agencies to adhere strictly to the principle of "first booked, first delivered" for domestic LPG cylinder deliveries, ensuring timely and equitable distribution.

Regular Inspections and Sustainable Alternatives

In addition to these measures, Walia instructed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to conduct regular and surprise inspections across the district. These inspections aim to check and curb the illegal use of domestic LPG cylinders in commercial establishments, which not only violates regulations but also diverts essential supplies from household consumers.

Furthermore, the deputy commissioner emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable energy alternatives. He encouraged institutions and bulk consumers to adopt Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as a more eco-friendly and efficient option, aligning with broader environmental and energy conservation goals. This initiative is part of a larger effort to reduce dependency on traditional fuels and transition towards cleaner energy sources in the long term.

The meeting concluded with a consensus among all stakeholders to work collaboratively towards maintaining a stable and reliable fuel supply chain in Patiala, ensuring that consumers' needs are met without any undue hardship or market manipulation.
