Lucknow experienced widespread power outages on Monday morning following a strong thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain, which disrupted electricity supply in several areas. According to Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, the power network across the city's four zones — Gomti Nagar, Jankipuram, Amausi, and Central zones — was affected due to breakdowns, fallen trees, and emergency shutdowns.
Gomti Nagar Zone Disruptions
In the Gomti Nagar zone, power supply from the Vipin Khand substation experienced a breakdown at 8:46 am, with restoration completed within one hour. Due to severe winds, all feeders of Sector 14 Old, Sector 14 New, Sector 25, and Sarvodaya Nagar substations were shut down from 9 am. In the Indira Nagar division, an emergency shutdown of all feeders was implemented at 9 am. In the Shivpuri area of the Chinhat division, power supply was restored by evening after field units worked to repair power cables snapped due to the collapse of several electric poles and trees.
Jankipuram Zone Multiple Failures
The Jankipuram zone faced multiple disruptions. At 10:20 am, electricity supply from the 11 kV XLP interlinking feeder of Nirala Nagar substation was interrupted due to a breakdown, affecting power for nearly an hour. Supply was also impacted in Sector 6, Jankipuram, after a tree fell on the main line, cutting a jumper. In Vikas Nagar, a tree damaged an ST pole on the 11 kV Gulacheen feeder, leading to further outages. The Kapurthala substation's 11 kV LDA feeder went into breakdown at 9:45 am, affecting areas such as Sector B, Aliganj, HIG, MIG, Mirzabagh, Chandralok, and Ravindra Garden. Similarly, power supply was completely disrupted in Jankipuram Extension after both 33 kV sources failed, with restoration taking four hours. Feeders in Subhash Park (Mahanagar), ITI Aliganj, and GPRA substation areas were also shut down due to storms and rain.
Amausi Zone and Restoration Efforts
In the Amausi zone, power supply from 33 kV substations at Puranpur, Gosainganj, Amethi, Samesi, and Bhatgaon remained normal. However, the 33 kV Nigohan substation line experienced a breakdown. By 11:50 am, several feeders, including 11 kV Maankhera, Mirzaganj, Navinmandi, Kasmandi Kala AG feeder, and 33 kV MLD Tehsil, were restored. Field teams continued working to restore full supply across affected areas.
