Chandigarh: Prof Ashok Kumar has been appointed as the new medical superintendent (MS) at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh. Official orders confirming the appointment were issued by the PGI director on Saturday. Prof Kumar, who is the senior-most professor in the department of hospital administration, will now hold a dual responsibility at the institute.
Dual Role for Prof Kumar
In addition to his new role as medical superintendent, Prof Kumar will continue to serve as the head of the department of hospital administration. He was assigned this position just days prior, on April 30. The new appointment takes effect immediately, marking a significant step in the administrative restructuring at PGI.
Background of the Appointment
The appointment follows the retirement of Dr Vipin Kaushal, who stepped down as medical superintendent after a distinguished career spanning over three decades at PGI. Dr Kaushal's tenure was marked by numerous contributions to the institute's growth and patient care services.
Prof Kumar's extensive experience in hospital administration is expected to bring continuity and expertise to the role. His dual responsibilities will allow for streamlined management of both clinical and administrative functions at the premier medical institution.
