Surat Municipal Officer Reverses Resignation Decision After 10 Days
In a significant development within the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), Deputy Municipal Commissioner Swati Desai has officially withdrawn her resignation nearly ten days after initially submitting it. The officer cited health concerns and personal reasons as the primary factors behind her decision to retract the resignation papers.
Resignation Not Approved by Municipal Commissioner
The withdrawal became possible because Municipal Commissioner Nagrajan M had not formally approved Desai's resignation. This administrative delay allowed the deputy commissioner to reconsider her position and formally retract her papers, preventing a permanent departure from her role.
Ripples Within Municipal Administration
The sudden resignation attempt by the young officer created considerable ripples throughout the Surat Municipal Corporation hierarchy. This incident gained particular attention because several officers have resigned abruptly in recent years before completing their full tenure, raising questions about administrative stability.
Despite being relieved of her responsibilities in the Smart City cell, Desai has continued to maintain her position as head of the accounts department while simultaneously serving as the zonal head of South Zone A, which includes the Udhna area. This dual responsibility highlights her continued involvement in municipal affairs despite the recent uncertainty.
Two-Decade Career Progression
Swati Desai boasts an impressive twenty-year career trajectory within the Surat Municipal Corporation, beginning her journey as a clerical staff member. Demonstrating remarkable dedication to professional development, she pursued advanced education while maintaining her service, eventually qualifying as a company secretary and earning both Master of Commerce and Master of Business Administration degrees.
After spending a full decade in clerical service, Desai achieved a significant promotion in 2017 when she was appointed as secretary. Her administrative capabilities and dedication were further recognized when she was selected for the prestigious position of Deputy Municipal Commissioner, marking a substantial career advancement within the municipal hierarchy.
Key Role in Green Bond Initiative
One of Desai's most notable recent contributions involved playing a pivotal role in the successful launch of SMC's ambitious Rs 200 crore green bond initiative. Her responsibilities encompassed overseeing the entire process from securing necessary certifications and regulatory approvals to ensuring meticulous execution of the environmental financing project.
Despite multiple attempts to reach her for comments regarding the resignation withdrawal, Swati Desai remained unavailable to provide additional insights or clarification about her decision-making process or future plans within the municipal corporation.
