Telangana Transport Department Launches Digital Road Safety Pledge Portal

In a significant move to enhance road safety across the state, the Telangana transport department officially launched an online Road Safety Pledge website on Tuesday. The inauguration ceremony took place at the secretariat in Hyderabad, with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar presiding over the event. This innovative initiative is part of a broader strategy to foster responsible road usage and curb the rising number of accidents and fatalities on Telangana's roads.

Engaging Citizens Through Digital Commitment

The newly launched website enables citizens to take a road safety pledge online, with a particular focus on reaching every motorbike owner at the grassroots level. Upon completing the pledge, participants will receive digital certificates, symbolising their commitment to adhering to traffic regulations. A key component of this programme involves students submitting a road safety commitment that is co-signed by their parents. This approach aims to reinforce the importance of traffic rules within family units, leveraging the strong emotional bonds between parents and children to promote lasting behavioural change.

Minister Emphasises Family Involvement for Greater Impact

Speaking at the launch event, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar highlighted the initiative's core objective: to significantly reduce road accidents and fatalities by harnessing the influential role of families in shaping responsible road behaviour. He explained that involving students and their parents creates a ripple effect of awareness, as discussions about traffic safety extend from schools into homes and communities. "By engaging families, we can spread awareness more effectively and ensure safer conduct on our roads," the minister stated, underscoring that road safety is a shared responsibility among citizens, families, and institutions.

Grassroots Campaign for Statewide Movement

The transport department has outlined ambitious plans to transform this pledge campaign into a widespread statewide movement. Officials revealed that the initiative has been meticulously designed to promote discipline, awareness, and responsible behaviour among all road users, including drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. By taking the campaign to the grassroots level, the department aims to instil a culture of safety that permeates every corner of Telangana. This effort aligns with broader public policy goals to enhance governance and public welfare through digital innovation and community engagement.

As part of the rollout, the department will collaborate with educational institutions, local authorities, and community organisations to maximise participation. The focus on digital certificates and online accessibility ensures that the campaign can reach a wide audience efficiently, even in remote areas. This initiative represents a proactive step towards building a safer road environment, where every individual recognises their role in preventing accidents and saving lives.
