Udaiganj Sewer Work Stalls for 15 Days, Causing Major Disruption for Residents
Residents of the Babu Banarasi Das ward in Udaiganj, Lucknow, are grappling with significant inconvenience as sewer line work has remained stalled for nearly 15 days. The prolonged halt has left roads dug up, severely restricting access and raising serious sanitation concerns in the area.
Daily Commuting Becomes a Challenge
Locals report that the damaged road stretches have made daily commuting extremely difficult, forcing many to take longer alternative routes. This disruption not only adds to travel time but also poses risks during emergencies.
Ramesh Gupta, a resident, expressed his frustration, stating, "The road outside our lane has been dug up for days. We now have to take longer routes even for routine commuting, which is both time-consuming and inconvenient."
Sanitation Issues Escalate
Beyond transportation woes, residents are facing mounting sanitation problems. Open pits, sewer water, and stagnant water have become common sights, leading to health hazards.
Shabnam Ali, another resident, highlighted the issue, saying, "There is a constant foul smell due to clogged drains by mud dug for sewer line work. Authorities should at least ensure temporary arrangements until the work restarts to prevent further deterioration."
Impact on Emergency Situations
The situation is particularly concerning during medical emergencies, as vehicles cannot reach houses directly due to the poor road conditions. Commuters are being forced to depend on alternate modes of transport, adding to the daily struggles.
Official Response and Accountability
In response to the complaints, Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) officials have notified the contractor to speed up the work and ensure timely completion. They emphasized that any delays would result in penalties for the agency involved.
The officials stated, "For any delay, we will penalise the agency to ensure accountability and prompt resolution of the issue."
As residents await a swift resolution, the stalled sewer work continues to disrupt daily life, underscoring the need for efficient urban infrastructure management in Lucknow.
