The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday approved an increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, raising it to 60% of the basic pay with effect from January 1, 2026. This decision aligns with the central government's recent revision of DA rates for its employees.
Details of the DA Revision
According to a government order issued by the finance department, the revised DA rates have been implemented in line with the Centre’s decision for its employees. The order applies to a wide range of personnel, including regular state employees, staff of aided educational and technical institutions, employees of urban local bodies, work-charged staff, and those drawing pay under University Grants Commission (UGC) scales.
Arrears and Disbursement
The arrears for the period from January 1 to April 30 will be deposited into the employees’ General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts. For employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS), a portion of the arrears will be credited to their Tier-I pension accounts. The remaining amount will be deposited in the provident fund or provided through National Savings Certificates, as per the applicable rules.
Impact on Employees
This DA hike is expected to benefit over 15 lakh state government employees and pensioners. The increase from the previous rate to 60% will provide significant financial relief, especially in the face of rising inflation. The state government has also ensured that the arrears are managed in a manner that aligns with long-term savings and pension benefits.
Employees can check the official government order for detailed information regarding the implementation and their specific entitlements. The move is seen as a step towards parity with central government employees and is likely to be welcomed by state workforce unions.
