UT Administration Assures No LPG Shortage for Domestic Users, Intensifies Vigil
UT: No LPG Shortage for Homes, Vigil Against Black Marketing

UT Administration Clarifies No Domestic LPG Shortage Amid Increased Consumption

The UT Administration in Chandigarh has issued a clear statement to dispel concerns, confirming that there is no shortage of LPG supply for domestic users. This announcement comes even as consumption has seen a slight uptick, which officials attribute to isolated incidents of panic buying among residents.

Sufficient Stocks Maintained by Oil Marketing Companies

According to the administration, oil marketing companies have reported that they are maintaining adequate stocks to meet daily requirements, ensuring a steady flow of LPG cylinders to households. This proactive measure aims to prevent any disruptions in the essential commodity supply chain.

Commercial LPG Supply Limited to Essential Services

In the commercial sector, the Union Government has implemented restrictions, limiting supply to 20% of the average monthly sales. States and Union Territories, including Chandigarh, have been advised to prioritize essential services. The UT Administration has guaranteed uninterrupted supply to critical institutions such as:

Enhanced Vigilance to Prevent Diversion and Black Marketing

To curb illegal activities, area inspectors from the Food and Supplies Department have been directed to maintain constant vigil in their jurisdictions. This initiative targets:

  1. Preventing diversion of domestic LPG for non-domestic purposes
  2. Stopping double stocking and overcharging
  3. Enforcing laws like the Prevention of Black-marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980, and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, if necessary

Promotion of Alternate Fuel Sources

The government is actively encouraging a shift to Piped Natural Gas (PNG), which is noted for being more economical, safe, and efficient compared to LPG. Currently, PNG supply is available in multiple sectors across Chandigarh, including:

  • Sectors 10, 11, 17, 22
  • Sectors 26 to 28, 30, 32 to 38
  • Sectors 40 to 44, and 46 to 51

Many commercial establishments have already adopted PNG, supporting the broader push for sustainable fuel alternatives.

No Reported Shortages in Other Fuels

Officials have also confirmed that sufficient stocks of motor spirit and high-speed diesel are being maintained, with no shortages reported in these areas. This comprehensive approach ensures overall fuel security in the region.

Appeal to Citizens

The administration has made a strong appeal to citizens, urging them to:

  • Avoid panic and refrain from panic buying
  • Not believe or spread unverified information
  • Discourage and not participate in black marketing or hoarding of LPG cylinders

This coordinated effort aims to maintain stability and trust in the fuel supply system during this period.
