Varanasi Municipal Corporation Approves Dedicated Meat Market Zones to Tackle Urban Issues
The Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) has taken a significant step toward urban regulation by deciding to establish special Meat Market Zones across the city. This decision comes after endorsing a proposal put forward by executive member Madan Mohan Tiwari, aiming to streamline the operation of meat shops within Varanasi's municipal limits.
Strategic Zoning for Improved Management
In a move to address longstanding problems, the corporation has resolved to develop these dedicated zones in all four zones of the city. Initial locations have been identified in key areas, including:
- Pisaur area
- Chitaipur
- The region between Ramnagar and Sujabad
- Sarnath (Aidhe)
These modern shops will be equipped with essential amenities such as parking facilities, enhancing convenience and safety for both vendors and customers.
Addressing Cleanliness and Traffic Challenges
Currently, the presence of meat shops in densely populated areas and along main roads has led to persistent issues related to cleanliness and traffic congestion. By consolidating these shops into designated zones, the VMC aims to:
- Improve registration and inspection processes for better oversight.
- Implement modern waste disposal systems to enhance sanitation.
- Reduce traffic bottlenecks caused by scattered shop locations.
This initiative is expected to foster a more organized and hygienic urban environment, benefiting residents and businesses alike.
Infrastructure Development and Flood Prevention Measures
To expedite the implementation of this project, Mayor Ashok Tiwari has directed Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal to prepare a detailed report and budget proposal as soon as possible. This will facilitate the development of necessary infrastructure at the identified locations.
In addition to the meat market zones, the municipal corporation has also decided to build a barrage on the Assi drain as a permanent solution to prevent flood devastation. A proposal for this flood prevention measure will be submitted to the irrigation department, underscoring the VMC's comprehensive approach to urban planning and disaster management.
This dual focus on regulating commercial activities and enhancing infrastructure highlights Varanasi's commitment to sustainable urban development and improved quality of life for its citizens.
