Sonam Wangchuk's health worsens on day 7 of hunger strike over education minister
Wangchuk health declines on day 7 of strike

Sonam Wangchuk's health has worsened as his hunger strike against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan entered its seventh day on July 4, 2026. Activist Abhijeet Dipke warned that the central government will be held responsible if any harm comes to Wangchuk.

Health deterioration and demands

Wangchuk has lost 5 kg since beginning the strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Dipke tweeted, 'Sonam Sir has lost 5 kg, and his health is deteriorating with each passing day. How much longer will the Prime Minister wait before sacking Dharmendra Pradhan?' He questioned why Pradhan remains in position despite the deaths of 20 students.

Dipke also posted, 'Day 7 of @Wangchuk66’s hunger strike. If the Govt doesn’t act fast and take action against Pradhan, it will be responsible if anything happens to Sonam Sir.' Wangchuk has vowed not to end the strike until action is taken against Pradhan.

Government response and Ladakh issue

On July 3, Wangchuk acknowledged steps taken by the government to resolve the Ladakh issue but urged attention to accountability in education. He tweeted, 'DAY 6 OF HUNGER AT JANTAR MANTAR. Thank you govt for steps taken today to resolve the Ladakh issue, now please pay attention to accountability in education.'

Wangchuk's protest has drawn attention to demands for Pradhan's removal over alleged negligence in student deaths. The activist's condition remains a concern as the strike continues.
