Chhattisgarh Launches 26 Projects Worth Rs 429 Cr Under CM Nagarotthan Yojana
Chhattisgarh's Rs 429 Cr Urban Revamp Underway

The Chhattisgarh government has embarked on a massive urban transformation drive, launching the first phase of the Chief Minister Nagarotthan Yojana. This ambitious initiative will see the execution of 26 major infrastructure projects worth a total of Rs 429.45 crore across 13 municipal corporations in the state.

Raipur Leads with Major Sanctions

The state capital, Raipur, is at the forefront of this development wave. It has received a substantial sanction of Rs 91.27 crore for four key projects. The planned works are diverse and aimed at enhancing civic life. They include the expansion of at least 18 crucial road junctions to ease traffic congestion, significant strengthening of the water-supply network, the redevelopment of Mahadev Ghat, and the construction of a technical tower at the iconic Telibandha lake.

State officials have emphasized that this first phase is just the beginning of a long-term overhaul designed to fundamentally alter the look and character of Chhattisgarh's cities. The government has already moved swiftly, issuing work orders for five projects and completing foundation stone ceremonies for five more, signaling a strong commitment to timely execution.

A Blueprint for Modern Urban Spaces

Launched earlier this year with a dedicated budget of Rs 500 crore, the CM Nagarotthan Yojana has a clear vision: to reshape city infrastructure through high-impact and iconic works. The scheme's scope is extensive, covering a wide array of developments:

  • Expansions of water bodies like Telibandha Lake.
  • Development of Oxy Zone–cum–sports complexes.
  • Construction of new inter-state bus terminals and hi-tech bus stands.
  • Building of bypasses, road widening, and urban corridors.
  • Ambitious riverfront development projects.
  • Creation of large public gardens and parks.

The initiative is currently being implemented in all 14 municipal corporations across Chhattisgarh, with plans to gradually extend its benefits to smaller urban bodies in subsequent phases.

Ensuring Accountability and Quality

To guarantee that projects are completed on time and meet quality standards, the government has established a robust monitoring framework. A district-level monitoring committee will be headed by the Collector in each district. The Commissioners of the respective municipal corporations will serve as member-secretaries, with executive engineers from the Public Works Department (PWD) and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) as members. These committees are tasked with conducting routine progress reviews and ensuring strict adherence to project deadlines.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has hailed the Nagarotthan Yojana as one of the state's most ambitious urban interventions. He stated that the scheme will drive a major shift in the quality of life and city infrastructure. The CM explained that the plan has been crafted with a focus on sustainable development and citizen-centric solutions.

"This will make our cities modern, beautiful and vibrant. It will not only change their appearance but also their character," CM Sai said. The comprehensive plan also includes flyovers, bypass roads, service lanes, underpasses, enhanced waste management systems, and the development of major public parks, aiming for a holistic upgrade of urban living standards in Chhattisgarh.
