Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Inaugurates New Electric Sub-Station for Metro Power Supply

In a significant move to bolster Delhi's public transport infrastructure, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a new Electric Receiving Sub-Station (RSS) at Park Street near the Central Vista on Friday. This key infrastructure addition is specifically designed to ensure uninterrupted and reliable power supply to the Delhi Metro network, addressing critical operational needs.

Enhancing Metro Corridors with Advanced Technology

The newly commissioned Park Street RSS, completed in an impressive 18-month timeframe, utilizes advanced technology to deliver failure-free power supply to Metro operations. It features newly installed essential electrical equipment and an advanced sub-station automation system, all developed in strict adherence to modern technical and safety standards. The facility is equipped with energy-efficient VRF air-conditioning and modern security infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Powering Key Metro Lines and Future Expansion

According to the CM office, this sub-station will supply power to several critical Metro lines, including the Airport Line, Violet Line (Line 6), and the upcoming Central Vista Metro Line. To facilitate smoother and more reliable operations, an additional 25 kV feeders have been installed across these corridors. This initiative is expected to strengthen services on these routes and cater to the ongoing expansion of the Metro network, supporting Delhi's growing urban mobility demands.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

During the inauguration, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the dual focus on development and environmental conservation. "Today, the Park Street Electric Receiving Sub-Station was inaugurated, which will ensure uninterrupted power supply in the major metro corridors. While planting trees on the campus, this resolve was also reiterated: development and environmental conservation must go hand in hand. Every new project reminds us of our responsibility towards a green future," she stated. The project aligns with green building norms, reflecting Delhi's push for sustainable urban infrastructure and reducing the environmental footprint of public transport systems.

Boosting Affordable and Accessible Transport

Gupta highlighted the broader vision behind this infrastructure upgrade, noting that "a Metro-centric transport system is key to providing affordable, accessible, and environmentally sustainable public transport for the capital." By ensuring a stable power supply, this sub-station supports the Metro's role in offering a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to private vehicles, contributing to reduced traffic congestion and improved air quality in the city.

The inauguration of the Park Street RSS marks a pivotal step in enhancing Delhi's public transport reliability and sustainability, setting a precedent for future infrastructure projects that balance technological advancement with environmental stewardship.
