Gujarat Schemes Boost School Enrolment, Attendance

The Gujarat government has announced that two flagship financial incentive schemes, Namo Lakshmi Yojana and Namo Saraswati Sadhana Yojana, have significantly boosted school enrolment, improved attendance, and encouraged students to complete higher secondary education.

Namo Lakshmi Yojana

Targeted at girl students, the Namo Lakshmi scheme provides total financial assistance of Rs 50,000. This includes Rs 20,000 for Classes 9 and 10 and Rs 30,000 for Classes 11 and 12.

Namo Saraswati Sadhana Yojana

The Namo Saraswati Sadhana scheme offers financial assistance of Rs 25,000 to students who opt for the science stream at the higher secondary level. This comprises Rs 10,000 for Class 11 and Rs 15,000 for Class 12.

Key Statistics

  • Female enrolment: Total female enrolment surged 4.63% from 13.29 lakh to 13.91 lakh in one year, an increase of 61,546 students.
  • Grade 12 enrolment: Enrolment of girls in Grade 12 shot up 13.59% in a year.
  • Zero-attendance: Zero-attendance saw a 50% reduction, from 92,491 to 47,358.
  • Namo Saraswati scheme: Total enrolment rose to 2.55 lakh students in the 2025-26 academic year, an increase of 6.34% over the past year.
  • Class 12 science: Enrolment increased by 11.04%, and attendance in the 81% to 89% bracket more than doubled, reaching 43,533 students.

Government officials attributed these improvements to the direct financial support provided by the schemes, which incentivize families to keep girls in school and encourage students to pursue science education.
