Monsoon Revival Expected in July
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that the monsoon is expected to strengthen in July, which will help narrow the current rainfall deficit. The statement comes as part of the government's efforts to reassure farmers and the agricultural sector amid concerns over uneven rainfall distribution.
Government Initiatives for Farmers
Under the “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” (Save the Farm campaign) conducted in June, more than 124,000 programmes were organised across the country, directly reaching over 8 million farmers. These initiatives aimed to provide guidance on crop management, water conservation, and other agricultural practices to mitigate the impact of weather variations.
According to Chouhan, the government is closely monitoring the situation and has put in place measures to support farmers. The strengthening of the monsoon in July is expected to improve soil moisture and aid in sowing operations, particularly for kharif crops.
Impact on Agriculture
The narrowing of the rainfall deficit is crucial for the agricultural sector, which heavily depends on the monsoon for irrigation. A good monsoon can boost crop yields and ensure food security. The minister emphasized that the government remains committed to assisting farmers through various schemes and advisories.
