Bihar Government Approves Major Mumbai Bhavan to Support Patients and Visitors

The Bihar government has taken a significant step forward with its plan to construct a Bihar Bhavan in Mumbai. This new facility aims to provide substantial relief for people from Bihar, particularly those traveling to the city for medical treatment. Cancer patients and their families often make the journey in large numbers, and this bhavan will offer them much-needed accommodation and support.

Project Details and Approval

During a recent state cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, administrative approval was granted for the project. The total cost is set at Rs 314 crore and 20 lakh. Kumar Ravi, the building construction department secretary, confirmed this approval. He emphasized that this decision will give fresh momentum to the execution of the project.

Ravi stated that the Bihar Bhavan will be constructed at Elphinstone Estate within the Mumbai Port Trust area. The building is planned to be around 30 storeys high, including a basement. It will stand at a height of 69 metres and cover approximately 0.68 acres of land.

Facilities and Special Arrangements

The new Bihar Bhavan is designed on the lines of the existing one in Delhi. It will feature modern facilities tailored to meet the needs of visitors from Bihar. Special arrangements are being made for cancer patients and other individuals suffering from serious diseases.

  • The building will include 178 rooms for accommodation.
  • A dormitory with a capacity of 240 beds will be available specifically for patients and their attendants.
  • Facilities for government work, meetings, and general accommodation will be provided.
  • Additional amenities include a conference hall seating 72 people, a cafeteria, and a medical room.

An official statement highlighted that special arrangements will be made for people coming from Bihar to Mumbai for cancer treatment. This focus on healthcare support is a key aspect of the project.

Infrastructure and Parking

The multi-storey building will also incorporate advanced infrastructure to ensure convenience for all users. Sensor-based smart triple or double-decker parking will be developed on the premises. This parking system will allow for up to 233 vehicles to be parked at a time, addressing potential congestion issues.

Other essential facilities will be integrated to make the bhavan a comprehensive hub for visitors. The design prioritizes functionality and comfort, especially for those undergoing medical treatments.

Impact and Significance

Kumar Ravi described the decision to construct the Bihar Bhavan in Mumbai as an important step towards the state's progress and public welfare. He noted that special facilities will be created for people from Bihar, including the dormitory for patients and their family members.

This project is expected to ease the burden on cancer patients and other visitors who frequently travel to Mumbai. By providing affordable and accessible accommodation, the Bihar Bhavan aims to improve their overall experience during difficult times.

The initiative reflects the government's commitment to supporting its citizens beyond state borders. It underscores a proactive approach to addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, particularly in healthcare contexts.
