PM Modi Unveils Massive Rs 48,000 Crore Development Package for Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a monumental development initiative valued at nearly Rs 48,000 crore during his two-day visit to Assam, which commenced on Friday. This marks his fourth trip to the northeastern state in as many months, strategically timed ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The visit represents one of the largest infrastructure packages ever announced for Assam, designed to revolutionize connectivity, promote clean energy, and empower local communities across the region.

Comprehensive Project Inauguration Across Key Locations

During the extensive tour, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated, laid foundation stones, and flagged off projects totaling over Rs 47,800 crore in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, and Silchar. These initiatives span critical sectors including roads, railways, power, petroleum, waterways, and social welfare, aiming to foster holistic development and economic growth in Assam.

Kokrajhar: Road Infrastructure and Railway Enhancements

The visit began in Kokrajhar on Friday, where PM Modi performed the bhoomi poojan for the Assam Mala 3.0 road projects, worth Rs 3,200 crore. This ambitious scheme will cover nearly 900 kilometers of new roads, significantly strengthening inter-state connectivity and facilitating smoother transportation networks. Additionally, he laid foundation stones for six other road projects in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area, which include four flyovers and two bridges, further enhancing regional infrastructure.

In a boost to rail connectivity, Modi flagged off three important trains: the Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, the Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express, and the Narangi–Agartala Express. These new services are expected to improve passenger and freight movement, linking Assam more effectively with other parts of the country.

Guwahati: Land Rights and Clean Energy Initiatives

Later in the evening in Guwahati, the Prime Minister launched projects worth Rs 19,680 crore. A landmark move during this program was the distribution of land pattas to tea garden workers, granting them homestead rights and providing long-awaited security and empowerment to this vital community. This initiative is seen as a significant step toward social justice and economic upliftment for Assam's tea workers.

Modi also released the 22nd instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, benefiting 9.3 crore farmers nationwide, thereby supporting agricultural livelihoods and rural economies. Furthermore, he dedicated the Rs 2,300-crore Kopili Hydro Electric Project to the nation, a major clean energy endeavor that will enhance power generation capacity and promote sustainable development in the region.

Strategic Focus on Assam's Development Ahead of Elections

This mega development drive underscores the government's commitment to accelerating Assam's growth trajectory, with a clear emphasis on infrastructure modernization, energy security, and social welfare. The timing of the visit, just ahead of the assembly elections, highlights the political significance of these announcements, as they aim to address key developmental needs and garner public support through tangible project deliveries.

The comprehensive package is expected to have a transformative impact on Assam's economy, improving connectivity, boosting employment opportunities, and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. As Prime Minister Modi continues to focus on the northeastern states, this initiative reinforces the strategic importance of Assam in India's broader development agenda.
