The Punjab government on Monday transferred Rs 1,147 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 33 lakh women under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana. The scheme, launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, aims to provide financial assistance to mothers and sisters across the state.

Direct Benefit Transfer to Beneficiaries

According to an official statement, the amount was credited to the accounts of 33,00,000 women in a single day. Each beneficiary receives Rs 1,500 per month, which is now being transferred quarterly in advance. The government has allocated a total of Rs 1,147 crore for this tranche.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, "This scheme is a tribute to the mothers and sisters of Punjab. We are committed to their welfare and empowerment." He added that the government has ensured a transparent and efficient transfer process.

Eligibility and Impact

The scheme covers all women above 18 years of age who are residents of Punjab, except those who are income tax payers or government employees. The financial assistance is meant to support their daily needs and promote financial independence.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, with many saying the money helps them manage household expenses. The scheme is part of the state government's broader social welfare agenda, which includes free electricity and healthcare.

Government's Commitment to Women Empowerment

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, "This is the largest direct benefit transfer to women in the state's history. We will continue to prioritize women's welfare." The government has planned to release the next installment in October.

The Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana was announced in the 2022-23 budget and has been implemented in phases. So far, over 40 lakh women have been registered under the scheme.
