Karnataka's Yeshasvini Health Insurance Scheme Opens Registration for 2026-27
Registration for the Karnataka government's Yeshasvini health insurance scheme for the 2026-27 period has officially begun. The ambitious program started accepting applications on January 3 across the entire state.
Scheme Details and Target Enrollment
The Yeshasvini scheme provides cashless medical treatment coverage up to Rs 5 lakh for cooperative sector members. This year, the cooperation department has set an ambitious target of enrolling 50 lakh people into the program.
Cooperative members from both rural and urban areas can participate. The scheme specifically includes dairy farmers, fishermen, and various other cooperative workers. Last year, approximately 47 lakh cooperative members enrolled in the program.
Historical Enrollment and Utilization
When the scheme relaunched in 2022-23, about 30 lakh cooperative members signed up across Karnataka. Since that relaunch, a total of 68,159 cooperative members have received cashless treatments worth Rs 117.79 crore.
In the 2024-25 period alone, beneficiaries availed treatments with an average cost of Rs 17,000 per procedure. The scheme covers an extensive range of 2,191 surgical procedures including interventional radiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular surgery.
Hospital Network and Coverage
Beneficiaries can access treatment at 786 empanelled hospitals throughout Karnataka. These include both private and government healthcare facilities. Beyond surgical procedures, the scheme also covers general medical services including ICU care.
Eligibility and Contribution Details
Gavigowda, Chief Executive Officer of Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Society in T Narasipura taluk, explained the broad eligibility criteria. Cooperative members from various sectors can enroll including:
- Dairy farmers
- Cooperative fish farming participants
- Agriculture producer societies
- Credit cooperative societies
- Beedi rollers
- Weavers' cooperative society members
- Wool and sheep cooperative society members
- Housing, agricultural and non-agricultural credit cooperative society members
The insurance cover extends to cooperative members and their dependent family members. This includes spouses, parents, children, and grandchildren.
Contribution Structure
The state cooperative department has established clear contribution rates:
For rural areas: Families pay an annual contribution of Rs 500 for up to four members. Each additional member beyond four requires an extra Rs 100.
For urban areas: Families pay Rs 1,000 annually for up to four members. Each extra member beyond four costs an additional Rs 200.
Registration Timeline and Implementation
The enrollment window for the Yeshasvini scheme remains open until March 31 of this year. G Ranganth, Under Secretary for the state cooperative department, confirmed that directions have been issued to all district officials.
Deputy registrars of cooperative societies and chief executive officers of cooperative societies across all districts have received instructions to maximize enrollment. Their goal is to ensure the maximum number of cooperative members and their families can benefit from this health insurance program.
