Mumbai Police Make 11th Arrest in Ecstasy Death Case of MBA Students
Mumbai police have intensified their investigation into the tragic deaths of two MBA students following consumption of ecstasy pills at a music concert. On Wednesday evening, authorities arrested the 11th accused in the case, marking a significant development in the ongoing probe.
Arrest Follows Money Trail Investigation
Police officials confirmed that Jiya Jacob (33) was apprehended from her residence in Ulhasnagar. The arrest came after investigators traced financial transactions linked to the case. "During inquiries with prime accused Ayush Sahitya and others, the probe team discovered that money had been credited to Jacob's bank account," stated an officer from Vanrai police station.
Authorities have frozen Jacob's bank account to determine the total amount she received through these transactions. Jacob is scheduled to be produced before the Borivli court on Thursday, where police will seek her custody for further questioning.
Tragic Incident at Goregaon Music Concert
The case stems from a devastating incident on April 11, when a group of 25 MBA students attended a music concert in Goregaon (East). Among them, a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman consumed ecstasy pills and died the following day. Police are currently awaiting forensic reports to establish the exact cause of death.
Investigators have recorded statements from over 40 individuals, including witnesses from among the MBA students who attended the concert. The comprehensive witness accounts are helping police piece together the events leading to the tragic deaths.
Expanding Investigation and Financial Links
In a related development, police summoned Sahitya's sister for questioning on Tuesday. This move came after investigations revealed that another accused, Vineet Gerelani, had transferred money to her during the music concert. The financial connections between various individuals are becoming increasingly complex as the investigation progresses.
Police are now actively searching for a major drug supplier with whom Sahitya was reportedly in contact. An individual is currently being questioned in connection with this aspect of the case, as authorities work to uncover the broader drug supply network involved.
The investigation continues to expand as police follow multiple leads, with the recent arrest representing another step toward unraveling the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths of the two young MBA students.
