A 19-year-old youth was brutally hacked to death at Ganraj Colony in Thergaon, Pune, on Thursday night, merely five days after he had secured bail in an attempted murder case involving a young woman. The attack also left his cousin injured, who is currently undergoing treatment at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital.

According to police officials, the fatal assault was carried out by two relatives of the 19-year-old woman. The accused have been arrested and booked under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The police investigation revealed that the attack stemmed from a prolonged dispute, which escalated after the youth allegedly began stalking the woman and pressuring her for marriage following his release from jail.
Background of the Case
Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Kurade stated that the youth had been arrested approximately five months ago in connection with an attempted murder case, after he allegedly assaulted the woman, who belongs to a different community. After being granted bail, he reportedly resumed his stalking behavior and started pressuring her for marriage. The woman's mother objected to this conduct and sought the intervention of her relatives to confront the youth.
The Attack
On Thursday evening, around 9:30 PM, two of the woman's relatives met the youth and his cousin at Ganraj Colony in Thergaon. What began as a conversation regarding the issue quickly escalated into a heated argument. The police reported that the relatives initially attacked the duo with a stick, followed by assaults using a knife and a billhook. The youth succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while his cousin sustained severe wounds and was rushed to the hospital.
Police Action
A case was registered at the Kalewadi police station, and the two accused were arrested promptly. Senior Inspector Rajendra Bahirat confirmed that neither of the accused had a prior criminal record. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are gathering further evidence to build a strong case.
