A tragic road accident on the busy Kanpur-Jhansi highway claimed two lives, including that of an infant, and left three others seriously injured on Tuesday evening. The collision occurred near the Pukhrayan bypass in Kanpur Dehat when a speeding SUV lost control, setting off a chain of events with devastating consequences.
Sequence of a Highway Tragedy
The incident unfolded when an SUV, travelling from Kanpur towards Jhansi, reportedly at high speed, crashed into the road divider. The impact was so severe that the vehicle veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a car that was coming from the Jhansi side towards Kanpur.
The car was carrying a family from Orai: Paritosh (38), his wife Shubhi (35), and their 11-month-old daughter Prasha. Their driver, identified as 25-year-old Rizwan, son of Nasruddin from Haldharpur Bhognipur, was at the wheel. All occupants of the car sustained serious injuries in the violent collision.
Rescue and Fatalities
Alert locals who witnessed the crash immediately rushed to the scene to rescue the injured. They helped extricate the victims and transported them to the nearest Community Health Centre (CHC) for urgent medical attention.
However, despite rescue efforts, the attending doctor, Dr. Anoop Sachan, declared two of the victims dead upon arrival. The deceased were identified as driver Rizwan and the 11-month-old baby girl, Prasha. The young parents, Paritosh and Shubhi, who were critically injured, were subsequently referred to a Medical College for advanced treatment.
Police Investigation Underway
Station Officer Amarendra Bahadur Singh confirmed the details of the accident and the casualties. He stated that the injured couple is receiving medical care. As part of the standard procedure following a fatal accident, both the SUV and the car have been taken into police custody for further investigation to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash.
The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of speeding on national highways, particularly at bypass areas. It serves as a grim reminder for motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially during evening hours when visibility and conditions can change rapidly.
