In a significant breakthrough, the Chandigarh Police have successfully apprehended three individuals linked to a string of thefts in the Mani Majra area. The police operation led to the recovery of stolen jewellery and household appliances, bringing relief to the affected residents.
Police Crackdown After Multiple Complaints
The arrests on January 9 came as a direct response to several theft and burglary incidents reported in Mani Majra over the preceding days. Acting swiftly on the complaints, the police formed special teams to investigate the crimes. These teams meticulously collected and analysed CCTV footage from the areas, conducted raids at suspected hideouts, and leveraged their network of informers to track down the culprits.
Identities of the Accused and Details of the Crimes
The three men taken into custody have been identified as Shamsher Singh (32), a resident of Mari Wala Town, Mani Majra; Shankar Rawat (30), from Pipli Wala Town, Mani Majra; and Karan, alias Pepsi (23), who hails from Majri Chowk in Panchkula.
The police action was based on two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) registered at the Mani Majra police station on January 9. The first case, FIR number 4, was filed by shopkeeper Abhinav Pal. He reported the theft of a blower and a mixer grinder from outside his shop located in the Market Hall Complex.
The second complaint, FIR number 5, was lodged by Jyoti Sharma, a housewife. She stated that jewellery was stolen from her residence while she was on the rooftop drying clothes. The stolen items included:
- One pair of gold earrings
- Two pairs of silver anklets
- One pair of silver bangles
- One silver chain with a locket
Recovery of Stolen Items and Legal Proceedings
During the investigation, the police managed to recover the stolen goods from the accused. The blower, mixer grinder, and two oil tins were recovered from the possession of Shamsher Singh and Shankar Rawat. Meanwhile, the jewellery stolen from Jyoti Sharma's house was found with Karan, alias Pepsi.
All three accused were presented before the court and have been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. Police officials revealed that while Shamsher Singh and Shankar Rawat have no prior criminal history, Karan (Pepsi) is already involved in an earlier case registered under the Arms Act in 2025 at the Ambala City police station.
This swift action by the Chandigarh Police underscores their commitment to tackling property crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens in the region.
