Three Coaching Students Arrested in Ranchi for Fatal Hit-and-Run
In a tragic incident stemming from a night out, three students of a private coaching institute in Ranchi have been arrested for allegedly running over and killing a young man with a four-wheeler. The event occurred in the Lalpur area of the city in the early hours between January 4 and January 5. The Ranchi police confirmed the arrests on Thursday from near Ring Road.
The Sequence of Events: From a Bar Party to a Fatal Confrontation
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Paras Rana, the chain of events began at a disco bar where the accused were partying. Divya Bharti (19), one of the arrested, alleged that an unidentified person touched her hand inside the establishment. This act sparked anger within the group.
"Later, the group started questioning people exiting the bar in an attempt to identify the person involved. This led to a clash between two groups," stated SSP Rana. In the ensuing melee, one of the accused, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, got behind the wheel of their four-wheeler and ran over Ankit Kumar, the victim from Garhwa.
Investigation and Aftermath of the Tragic Incident
Ankit Kumar was immediately rushed by his friends to Ranchi Sadar Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). Tragically, Ankit succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Following the death, the victim's friends took legal action by filing a Zero FIR at a police station in Garhwa the next day, January 5. The case was subsequently transferred to the Lalpur police station in Ranchi for further investigation. The police team cracked the case by meticulously analyzing CCTV footage from the crime scene, which led to the identification and arrest of the three accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Roshan Prasad (22) from Garhwa, Ramandip Singh (23), and Divya Bharti (19) from Palamu. During interrogation, the accused confessed to their roles in the incident, providing the police with a clear account of the fatal night.
