In a shocking and tragic incident, a five-year-old girl was discovered murdered with her throat slit in a field at Dhurpaili village under the Amour police station area in Purnia district on Monday. The victim has been identified as Somiya Kumari, the daughter of Manjit Harijan.

According to the girl's father, Somiya left her home around 4 PM on Sunday to attend a wedding in the village with her mother. When she went missing, the family initially assumed she might be playing nearby. However, as hours passed without any sign of her, concern grew rapidly.
Relatives and villagers immediately launched an extensive search operation, combing through various locations including temple premises, nearby houses, fields, and other potential spots. Announcements were made from both the temple and the mosque in the village, appealing for information, but no leads emerged during the initial search efforts.

Police reported that the girl's body was found in an orchard within the village on Monday morning. The scene was gruesome, with her throat slit by a sharp-edged weapon and the body soaked in blood.
Awadhesh Kumar, the officer in charge of Amour police station, stated, "An investigation was launched immediately after we received information. Given the seriousness of the case, an FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team was called to the scene, and key evidence has been collected. The motive and the assailant are not yet known. We are awaiting a written complaint from the family, after which the picture will become clearer."
