Late-Night Reshuffle in Punjab Administration
In a late-night administrative reshuffle, the Punjab government transferred eight IAS officers, with Sandeep Rishi appointed as the new Chief Administrator of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). The order was issued late on July 8, 2026.
Key Appointments and Changes
Sandeep Rishi replaces Sandeep Kumar, who had recently taken charge of GMADA. Kumar has also been removed as Director of the Town and Country Planning Department but has not been assigned a new posting. Sakshi Sawhney has been relieved as Chief Administrator of the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUPDA) and appointed nodal officer for the state's Anti-Drug Campaign. Neeru Katyal Gupta will serve as Chief Administrator of PUPDA and Director of Town and Country Planning. Neelima has been shifted from the Home Department to handle the Personnel and Vigilance Departments.
Impact on Development Authorities
The changes affect key urban development bodies in Punjab. GMADA oversees planning and development in the Mohali region, while PUPDA handles urban planning across the state. The reshuffle aims to streamline administration and address governance priorities.
