8-Year-Old Girl Raped in Uttar Pradesh Village, Accused Absconding
In a shocking incident, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a neighbor in a village under the Jaitpur police station limits in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district. The accused, identified as a 35-year-old man, has been on the run since the crime came to light.
According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday evening when the girl had gone to a nearby field to relieve herself. The accused, who lives in the same locality, allegedly lured her and committed the crime. When the girl did not return home, her family launched a search and found her in a semi-conscious state in the field.
The family immediately informed the police, who rushed the victim to a community health center for medical examination. Later, she was referred to a district hospital for further treatment. The victim's statement has been recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before a magistrate.
Police Action
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mahoba, Dr. Satpal Singh, said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 'We have formed multiple teams to nab the accused. Raids are being conducted at possible hideouts,' he added.
The police have also collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and are analyzing it to strengthen the case. The accused, a daily wage laborer, is a married man with children. He has been evading arrest since Wednesday morning.
Community Outrage
The incident has sparked outrage among the villagers, who have demanded strict action against the perpetrator. A protest was held outside the Jaitpur police station, with locals demanding immediate arrest and severe punishment. The village pradhan assured support to the victim's family.
Child rights activists have condemned the incident and called for better security measures for children in rural areas. 'Such heinous crimes reflect the failure of the system to protect the most vulnerable. The accused must be brought to justice swiftly,' said a local activist.
The victim's family has been provided with a police security cover. The district administration has also assured them of all possible help, including compensation under the state government's victim compensation scheme.
