ABVP warns of intensified protests at Mangalore University

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called on Mangalore University to take immediate action to address student grievances regarding insufficient facilities on campus. Suvith Shetty, the state secretary of ABVP, addressed the media on Tuesday, stating that protests would escalate if the university fails to meet their demands.

Peaceful Protest and Alleged Suppression

Shetty highlighted that the ABVP had conducted a peaceful protest urging the university to resolve student issues. However, he accused the administration of attempting to suppress student voices rather than addressing the problems. "Instead of finding solutions, the university remains unconcerned. Protesting students were even detained by the police," he said.

Declining Standards and Infrastructure Woes

The ABVP leader noted that Mangalore University, once a prestigious institution, has been losing its reputation due to administrative failures and irregularities. Key concerns include a lack of proper infrastructure and permanent faculty. Additionally, the fee structure has been burdensome for students. Shetty specifically pointed out that the university collects Rs 12,000 as a lab fee from MBA students without providing quality laboratory equipment. He demanded the refund of this fee.

Specific Departmental Deficiencies

Shetty further elaborated on deficiencies in various departments. The Botany and Political Science departments lack water purifiers, while the Library Science, Computer Science, and Computer Applications departments do not have sufficient computers. These issues, he argued, hinder the quality of education and student welfare.
