Ahmedabad Crime Branch Nabs Prime Accused in School Bomb Threat Hoax
In a significant breakthrough, the Ahmedabad crime branch has arrested the prime accused behind a series of hoax bomb threat emails that targeted schools in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar over recent months. The arrest brings much-needed relief to anxious parents, students, and school authorities who have been grappling with repeated disruptions and fear.
Joint Operation Leads to Arrest in West Bengal
The accused, identified as Sourav Biswas, 40, was apprehended from West Bengal in a coordinated effort by the city crime branch and the Cybercrime branch. Following his arrest, Biswas was brought to Ahmedabad and is currently on remand until March 14. Investigators are intensively questioning him to uncover the motive behind the threats, identify any possible accomplices, and understand the technical methods used to send mass emails while masking his identity.
Panic and Disruption Across Educational Institutions
The arrest comes after a string of bomb threat emails triggered widespread panic across several educational institutions in both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Schools were forced to evacuate classrooms, suspend lectures, and conduct emergency checks with the assistance of bomb disposal squads and local police. Teachers scrambled to ensure student safety, while worried parents rushed to campuses amid chaotic scenes, exacerbating the tension.
The most recent threat occurred last month, just ahead of crucial board examinations, heightening anxiety among Class 10 and 12 students. Although every threat was later confirmed as a hoax after thorough searches, the repeated incidents severely disrupted academic schedules and instilled deep-seated fear. Each episode resulted in school evacuations for comprehensive security checks, further interrupting classes and spreading panic among students, teachers, and parents alike.
Dedicated Teams and Technical Breakthrough
In response to the escalating situation, the city police and state government formed dedicated teams to trace the sender of the threatening emails. The breakthrough was achieved when the crime branch, with technical support from cyber experts, successfully tracked digital footprints leading to West Bengal. This meticulous investigation culminated in the arrest of Biswas, marking a critical step in addressing the security concerns that have plagued the educational community.
The arrest not only aims to bring the perpetrator to justice but also serves to restore a sense of safety and normalcy in schools, ensuring that students can focus on their studies without the shadow of such threats looming over them.
