Ahmedabad Builder Apprehended in Decades-Old Land Fraud Case

In a significant breakthrough, the Ahmedabad Rural police have arrested Dashrath Patel, a prominent promoter of Popular Builders, in connection with a land cheating case that traces its origins back to 1982. The arrest marks the culmination of a long-standing investigation into alleged document forgery and illegal land occupation.

Arrest of Proclaimed Absconder

Dashrath Patel, who had been declared a proclaimed absconder by authorities, was apprehended from Nathdwara in Rajasthan on Sunday. Omprakash Jat, the Superintendent of Police for Ahmedabad Rural, confirmed the arrest, stating that Patel had exhausted all legal remedies before absconding. "He has now been arrested and brought to Gujarat," Jat emphasized, highlighting the persistence of law enforcement in tracking down the accused.

Details of the Land Fraud Allegations

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case revolves around a plot of land measuring approximately 63,772 square metres in Godhavi village, Ahmedabad district. The complainant, Ramkrushna Acharya, a resident of Green Leaves Apartments in Sola, alleged that Patel, along with Raman Patel and Saryudasji Bava, forged documents to illegally occupy this land.

The land originally belonged to Acharya's grandfather, Shatrughnadasji, who passed away on February 4, 1991. However, revenue records allegedly showed Saryudasji Bava being projected as Shatrughnadasji's son, enabling the transfer of the land to his name on November 13, 1982. Police reports indicate that Raman and Dashrath Patel subsequently got the same plot transferred to their names on August 5, 1983.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The offence was officially registered in 2022 following findings by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the district collectorate. Acharya had earlier approached the SIT, which probes land-grabbing cases, and discrepancies in the records were uncovered. This led to the registration of an FIR at Bopal police station.

Officials from the Local Crime Branch (LCB) noted that the investigation revealed further irregularities, including documents falsely mentioning Shatrughnadasji's death as occurring in 2001 instead of 1991. These findings strengthened the case against the accused, prompting legal action.

Broader Implications and Police Efforts

The arrest underscores the Ahmedabad police's commitment to addressing historical fraud cases, particularly those involving land disputes. By apprehending a proclaimed absconder like Dashrath Patel, authorities aim to send a strong message against such illicit activities. The case also highlights the role of SITs in uncovering complex frauds that span decades, ensuring justice for victims like Ramkrushna Acharya.

As the legal process unfolds, this development is expected to shed light on similar land-grabbing incidents in the region, potentially leading to further investigations and arrests. The police continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities related to land fraud, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in preventing such crimes.
