The thieves decamped with silver articles, gold, and cash, collectively valued at over ₹2.3 lakh. According to a formal complaint lodged with the Ghatlodia police station on Sunday, the property belongs to a businessman who is currently residing in the United States.
Locked Property in Rowhouse Society
The targeted bungalow is situated within a rowhouse society near the prominent Manav Mandir. The house had been securely locked, as no family members were currently residing there. This detail highlights the calculated nature of the burglary, with the perpetrators apparently selecting a vacant property to minimize the risk of detection.
Discovery of the Theft
The theft was discovered on January 22, when an alert neighbor noticed a broken lock on the premises and promptly informed the homeowner. The owner, who is abroad, then contacted his local employee, who manages his affairs in Ahmedabad, and instructed him to inspect the property. Upon arrival, the employee was confronted with a scene of disarray: the main door lock was broken, and the interior had been thoroughly ransacked.
Extent of the Damage and Stolen Items
Police officials reported that cupboards in two separate rooms had been forcibly opened. Additionally, a small metal safe was found broken into. A preliminary assessment of the loss revealed a detailed list of stolen items, including:
- Silver coins and various silver utensils
- A silver idol and a decorative silver coconut
- A gold bar weighing approximately 10 grams
- Cash amounting to ₹25,000
The cumulative value of these stolen articles is estimated to exceed ₹2.3 lakh, marking this as a substantial property crime.
