Ahmedabad Doctor's Home Looted of Rs 1.47 Crore in Jewellery, Cash While Family Was Abroad
In a shocking incident in Ahmedabad, burglars targeted the house of an ophthalmologist in Ambawadi. They made off with valuables worth approximately Rs 1.47 crore. The theft occurred while the doctor and his family were abroad in Dubai.
Family Discovers Theft Upon Return from Dubai
The burglary came to light early on Friday morning. The family returned from their trip to Dubai around 6 am. Upon entering their home in Manekbaug Society, Ambawadi, they immediately noticed signs of disturbance.
Dr. Shah, the ophthalmologist who runs an eye hospital in Maninagar, found an open bag on the sofa. Documents were scattered around it. He decided to check the CCTV footage for clues. However, the burglars had taken the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) system.
How the Burglars Gained Entry
A preliminary inspection revealed the method of entry. The thieves broke the stopper of a wooden window located near the main door. They also tampered with the iron grille to gain access to the house.
The family had left for Dubai on Monday around 2 am. Before their departure, they secured their valuables. They stored gold and silver jewellery along with cash in iron safes and concealed lockers. These were placed in the first-floor bedrooms. The keys to these lockers were kept in another unused locker for added security.
Stolen Items Include High-Value Jewellery and Cash
Upon checking the first-floor bedrooms, the family discovered the cupboards and safes had been forcibly opened. A significant haul of valuables was missing. The stolen property includes:
- Multiple diamond-studded gold necklaces
- Gold bracelets and bangles
- Gold rings and coins
- Gold biscuits weighing over 200 tolas
- Silver ornaments weighing about 700 grams
- Cash amounting to Rs 45 lakh
The burglars also took the CCTV DVR, likely to avoid leaving evidence. The total estimated value of the stolen items reached Rs 1.47 crore.
Police Launch Investigation Under New Law
Dr. Shah immediately alerted the police control room after discovering the theft. Personnel from the Satellite police station quickly reached the spot. They conducted a preliminary inspection of the premises.
Forensic teams were called to the scene. They collected evidence to aid in the investigation. The Satellite police registered a formal case. They charged unknown persons with burglary and criminal trespassing under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Investigators have begun scanning footage from nearby CCTV cameras. They are verifying the movement of suspicious persons in the locality during the period the house was locked. The police are pursuing all leads to identify and apprehend the culprits.
This high-value theft has raised concerns in the Ambawadi area of Ahmedabad. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and enhance their home security measures.
