Major Fire Erupts in Ahmedabad's Panchkuva, Gutting Over 30 Shops
A significant fire broke out in the Panchkuva area of Ahmedabad on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the destruction of more than 30 shops and prompting a large-scale firefighting response. According to an officer from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES), no casualties were reported in the incident.
Rapid Spread and Firefighting Efforts
The blaze originated around 1:14 PM in a cloth shop situated opposite a fire station. While the exact cause remains under investigation, officials stated that the flames spread swiftly to adjacent establishments, engulfing numerous shops within minutes. Upon receiving the alert, AFES teams immediately rushed to the scene and initiated an extensive firefighting and rescue operation.
A total of 32 fire vehicles were deployed, including 14 water bowsers with a 20KL capacity, two mini fire tenders, five water tenders, and multiple first responder vehicles. Approximately 121 fire personnel were involved in the effort, comprising 82 firemen, nine leading hands, 29 drivers, and several senior officers such as station officers, divisional officers, and chief fire officials. Senior civic officials also monitored the situation on the ground to coordinate the response.
Containment and Safety Measures
Firefighters battled the intense flames for several hours before successfully bringing the situation under control. Cooling operations were subsequently conducted at the site to prevent any potential flare-ups. Officials emphasized that the timely response by the fire department was crucial in averting a major tragedy, given the area's dense concentration of commercial units. Despite the extensive damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire. As a precautionary measure, additional safety protocols have been implemented in the vicinity to enhance security and prevent future incidents.
